Senior Girl Athlete

The Senior Girl Athlete Awards Banquet is an exclusive event honoring female athletes from 21 local high schools. Honorees are recognized for her outstanding contributions to athletics, academics and citizenship and awarded a scholarship and medallion at the event. Each year the Junior League of Fresno selects a prominent athlete to be a guest speaker for the event.

2010 Honored Senior Girl Athletes

Asia Adell of Clovis West High School

Asia Adell competed in golf at Clovis West High School.  She maintained an excellent GPA while volunteering at the Veterans Hospital and Kastner golf as well as participating in Junior Larcs.  Ms. Adell will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo after graduation.  She plans on majoring in business. 
 
 

Janette Anaya of Roosevelt High School

Ms. Anaya competed in soccer and cross-country at Roosevelt High School.  She maintained an excellent GPA while also participating in Spanish Club, California Scholarship Federation, and St. John’s Cathedral. Ms. Adell will attend UC Davis, Fresno State or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo after graduation.  She plans to major in criminology. 


Juliana Bremer of Edison High School

Ms. Bremer is a water polo player and a swimmer at Edison High School.  In addition to her achievements in athletics and the classroom, she also volunteered at Horizon Healthcare Center, St. Paul Newman Center and Fresno City College. Ms. Held plans to attend UC Davis, Sonoma State or Santa Clara and majoring in education. 


Alisha Brown of Madera South High School

While attending Madera High South, Ms. Brown competed in Cross Country and Track and Field.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Brown also is the President of Block S, and an active participant in her church youth group and the Campus Awakening Club.  After graduation, she plans to attend UC Riverside and major in Psychology.

 

Victoria Burnell of Liberty High School

 Ms. Burnell competed in soccer, cross country and track at Liberty High School.  She maintained an excellent GPA while volunteering at the Valley Children’s Hospital and coaching elementary boys soccer as well as participating in Fresno County Young Republicans and California Scholarship Federation. Ms. Burnell will major in political science upon graduation. 

Nicole Chapple of Clovis High School

Nicole Chapple competed in volleyball, basketball and badminton at Clovis High School.  In addition to achieving in sports and in the classroom, she also was active as a church volunteer, elementary school coach, animal shelter volunteer, French Club and California Scholarship Federation.  Ms. Chapple is hoping to play basketball in college and plans on studying special education. 


Michelle Clark of Reedley High School

While attending Reedley High School, Ms. Clark competed in soccer, volleyball and track and field.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Clark is also active in the Fresno Food Bank, St. La Salle Volleyball Tournament, and Zoo Boo.  After graduation, she plans to attend Fresno City College.   
 
 

Halee Clevenger, Central High School

While attending Central High School Ms. Clevenger participated in Jr. Varsity and Varsity Volleyball. She was Volleyball MVP (Jr. Varsity and Varsity); Team Captain; All-League Second Team. She participated as Blood Drive Volunteer; Roosevelt Elementary After-School Program Volunteer; Harvest Elementary Summer School Volunteer; AVID Middle School Tutor; Athletes as Readers and Leaders while maintaining high academic achimentnts. She plans to attend Long Beach State University.   
 
 

Mara Curry of Fresno High School

While attending Fresno High School, Ms. Curry competed in swimming and tennis.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Rich is also a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente, Pennies for Peace Project, Invisible Children of Uganda Project, and is active in a number of clubs including Mock Trial and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  After graduation, she plans to study Biology. 
 
 

Monica Duarte of McLane High School in Fresno

Ms. Duarte competed in basketball, track & field and volleyball at McLane High School.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Duarte is also active in AVID, New Beginnings, JROTC, the Poverello House, Kid’s Day, and volunteering at the VA hospital.  After graduation, she plans to attend Fresno State major in Education.   

Nancy Fang of Hoover High School

Ms. Fang competed in tennis at Hoover High School.  She maintained an excellent GPA while also participating in California Scholarship Federation, MESA Club, Lao Family Community of Fresno, and Interact Club. Ms. Fang will attend UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, or University of the Pacific after graduation.  She plans to major in Chemistry or Biology. 
 

Leslie Gray of Sanger High School in Sanger

While attending Sanger High School, Ms. Gray competed in water polo and swimming.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Gray is also active in Kings River Clean-up, senior Citizen Luncheon Volunteer, Blood Drives, and Dinuba Rabies Clinic.  After graduation, she plans to study Chiropractic or Kinesiology.  

 

Kacey Held of Buchanan High School

Kacey Held is a soccer player at Buchanan High School.  In addition to her achievement in soccer and the classroom, she also coordinated the Dry Creek snack bar, worked as a camp counselor, assistant soccer coach, carnival and fundraising volunteer. Ms. Held plans on attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and majoring in civil engineering. 


Zaida Munoz of Sunnyside High School

Ms. Munoz is a water polo player and a swimmer at Sunnyside High School.  In addition to her achievements in athletics and the classroom, she also volunteered at the Poverello House, Storyland and was active in Don’t Laugh at Me, French Club, and California Scholarship Federation. Ms. Munoz plans to attend Stanford University and study Aerospace Engineering. 
 


Katy Olivero of San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno

While attending San Joaquin Memorial High School,  Olivero competed in volleyball and track and field.  While maintaining a high GPA, Olivero is also active in Relay For Life, Poverello House, Catholic Schools Volleyball Tournaments, and Block M.  After graduation, she plans to attend Fresno State.  


Meaghan O’Meara of Clovis East High School

While attending Clovis East High School, Meaghan O’Meara competed in cross country, soccer, swimming and diving.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Rich is also active in the Make A Wish Foundation, Jr. LARCS Club, the Principal’s Advisory Student Association, church mission work in Mexico and Kid’s Day. After graduation, she plans to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and study Kinesiology. 

Brianna Reyes of Madera High school

Ms. Reyes competes in soccer, volleyball, softball and track at Madera High School.  In addition to her achievement in soccer and the classroom, she also volunteered for numerous community organizations including, the Soup Kitchen, canned food drives, and Kids Day. Ms. Reyes plans on attending Fresno State and majoring in Kinesiology. 
 
 

Victoria Rich, Washington Union High School

Ms. Rich participated in Softball and Volleyball while attending Washington Union High School. In addition to her academic achievements she participated in Kids Day, Canned Food Drive, Sofball Clinic and FFA Herdsman. Ms. Rich is undecided as to what college she will attend but plans to major in Kinesiology.  


Mariah Riddlesprigger, Bullard High School

While attending Bullard High School, Ms. Riddlesprigger competed in volleyball and track and field.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Riddlesprigger is also active in the African American Student Union, Junior LARCs, Pay It Forward, Special Olympics, Northpointe Community Church and Kid’s Day.  After graduation, she plans to attend Rice University and major in Broadcast Journalism and Psychology.   


Jessika Searles, Fresno Christian High School

While attending Fresno Christian High School Ms. Searles participated in volleyball, soccer and softball. While maintaining a high GPA, she also participated in the Shelby County Humane Society. She plans to attend the University of Alabama – Tuscaloosa and major in pre-med with a specialization in psychiatry.  
 
 


Chelsea Weber of Kerman High School in Kerman

While attending Kerman High School, Ms. Weber competed in softball and volleyball.  While maintaining a high GPA, Ms. Weber is also active in The Pulse, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Vacation Bible School and Turning Point Pregnancy Center. After graduation, she plans to attend Fresno Pacific University and major in Physical Therapy.
