Partnerships in the Community

Serving "Women and Children in Need with an Emphasis on Health and Education”

The Junior League of Fresno, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The Junior League of Fresno’s Active and Sustaining membership is nearly 300 strong all sharing a commitment to voluntarism. The funds used to support the Junior League of Fresno’s projects and programs come from League-sponsored fundraisers. The Junior League of Fresno is dedicated to addressing critical community needs. The methods utilized to establish partnerships with other agencies include:

Currently, the Junior League of Fresno (JLF) has chosen to focus its financial and volunteer efforts in the area of "Women and Children In Need" with an emphasis on Health and Education. Therefore, all requests for funding or project assistance must be geared toward these issues.

Community Service Funds are granted to nonprofit organizations for developmental or short-term needs. The purpose of these funds is to permit the Junior League to respond to critical community needs without committing volunteers.

Requests for Community Service Funds are directed to a Projects Review Board. At any time a member of the Board may interview the agency representative for more information. The Projects Review Board then reviews the request. (Committee members who are directly affiliated with the requesting agency may not participate in discussions or voting regarding the request.) The recommendation of the Projects Review Board is then submitted to the Board of Directors for final approval. The grant amount varies based on need and available funds. There is a maximum limit of $1,000 per grant awarded. Community Service Funds may be disbursed up to two times during the Junior League’s fiscal year.

Community Service Projects are an opportunity for the Junior League of Fresno to collaborate in a partnership with many other vital organizations that serve our community. The size and scope of these projects range from “done-in-a-day” mini-projects conducted year-round by our Impact Fresno Committee, a Standing Project which is adopted as a one to three year duration (typically for a planning phase and an implementation phase) or a Signature Project where our members would commit a specific amount of volunteer time and a larger amount of money to address a specific one time need on a larger scale. Standing Committee Projects and Signature Projects will be referred to our Projects Review Board and voted on by our general membership for adoption. We look for the “best fit” project that is aligned with our mission and focus, as well as the resources available to allocate toward projects in any given year. We are very proud of our past projects both great and small.
