Girl Power

Girl Power! Is a project sponsored by Junior League of Fresno in partnership with Golden State Family Services and for the first time, Transitions Children Services. We are excited to partner with an additional Foster Care agency this year to increase attendance at our events and make a larger impact within our community.

Girl Power’s objective is to promote volunteerism through hands on monthly projects that work to develop the potential of foster girls, ages 9-17, and help them build self confidence and a positive self image by providing support and guidance, allowing them to be confident, fulfilled and true to themselves.

Our Girl Power Events will be held every month and will focus on educational, fun activities, such as “Self Defense,” “Nutrition & Healthy Eating,” “Hygiene,” and “Career planning,” to name a few. At our first event we decorated journal for each girl to keep as a way to help deal with emotions and write down thoughts.

We are also taking makeup sample and makeup bag donations this year to put together a gift bag for each girl that will be presented to them at our Beauty & Hygiene class.

Our vision is to make a lasting impact on young women by encouraging and empowering 9-17 year old girls to make the most of their lives.
