Girl Power!

Girl Power! was a project sponsored by Junior League of Fresno in partnership with Golden State Family Services and Transitions Children Services. Junior League of Fresno supported this project from 2008 to 2011.

The objective of Girl Power! was to promote voluntarism through hands-on monthly projects that work to develop the potential of foster girls, ages 9-17, and help them build self-confidence and a positive self-image by providing support and guidance through their relationships with JLF members at Girl Power! events.

Our Girl Power! Events were held every month and focused on educational, fun activities, such as “Self Defense,” “Nutrition and Healthy Eating,” “Hygiene,” and “Career Planning,” to name a few. At our first event each year, the girls decorated journals to keep as a way to help record emotions and write down thoughts.

Our vision was to make a lasting impact on a specific group of young women in the community by encouraging and empowering 9 to 17-year-old girls in foster care to learn about their personal and emotional development.
